Baptism

Baptism for children under the age of 7 can be arranged by contacting the Faith Formation Office and speaking with Terri Simonetta or Sister Sophie. Families must be registered parishioners in good standing.


Children age 7 and older are required to attend weekly Faith Formation classes prior to the reception of Sacraments.

Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation for school-age children is a three-year process. As with all elementary sacrament preparation at St. James, classes are separate and in addition to their regular Faith Formation classes.


Registration for the 2026-2027 year is open. Please register at the front office.

Eucharist

Mass Times:

  • Daily Mass - Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday-Saturday - 8:00 AM, Wednesday - 7:00 PM
  • Weekend Masses: Saturday @4pm, Sunday @ 8 AM and 10AM, 12:00 PM (Spanish), and 6:00 PM


First Communion

Children in grade 3 and older are eligible to enter this sacrament program providing they have completed two full years of formal Faith Formation classes.


This program is in addition to their regular Faith Formation.


OCIA

Adults who have not yet received Confirmation or First Holy Communion are invited to complete their Sacraments of Initiation.


The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a spiritual journey for adults seeking to join the Catholic Church or complete their initiation through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Guided by scripture, prayer, and community, OCIA welcomes you to explore and embrace the Catholic faith.


Adults, 18 years and above, who have not been Confirmed and desire to complete the sacrament of Baptism, may also participate in this process.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament that strengthens the baptized with the Holy Spirit, deepening their faith and commitment to Christ and the Church. Through prayer and anointing, it calls Catholics to grow in spiritual maturity and live out their faith as active witnesses in the Church and the world.


STUDENTS

The Diocese of Phoenix follows the Restored Order of the Sacraments, meaning Confirmation and First Holy Communion are celebrated together. These sacraments are typically received during a child’s third-grade year.

Reconciliation

Confession

Saturdays at 2:00 PM & 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 6:00 PM


First Reconciliation

First Reconciliation is normally celebrated in the second grade, following one full year of prior formal Catholic Faith Formation classes.


For students out of sequence (that is, children who have no prior Faith Formation) in second grade and above must complete one year of Formation the first year. In the fall of their second year, they will enter the sacrament prep program while continuing with their regular Formation classes.

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of Anointing of the sick is not solely reserved to those that are actively dying. This beautiful Sacrament is open to anyone that is about to undergo surgery, is severely or chronically mentally or physically sick, and the dying.


We encourage our parishioners to fully participate in this grace-filled Sacrament. If you or a family member would like to receive this Sacrament, please call the parish office to schedule an appointment with one of our priests.

Marriage

Congratulations on your engagement! We are honored that you are considering celebrating the Sacrament of Matrimony at St. James. Marriage preparation is an important opportunity to grow together in faith as you prepare for your life together.


Couples planning to marry at St. James must complete the Diocese's marriage preparation requirements, which should begin at least nine months before the desired wedding date.


To begin the process, please contact the parish office at 623-581-0707 to schedule an appointment with Fr. Ben. Both fiancé and fiancée must be present for this initial meeting.


Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Baptism certificate for each fiancé
  • Confirmation certificate for each fiancé
  • Any documentation related to a previous annulment, if applicable


If either party has been previously married, please bring any annulment documentation so Fr. Ben can review your situation and guide you through the next steps, if needed.


This preparation process also applies to couples who are civilly married and wish to have their marriage convalidated (recognized) in the Catholic Church.
