Anointing of the Sick
Christ's Healing Presence in Times of Illness
The Anointing of the Sick brings Christ's comfort, strength, and healing to those facing serious illness, advanced age, or significant health challenges.
What Does the Catholic Church Teach?
"By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord." (CCC 1499)
This sacrament offers grace, peace, courage, and spiritual healing to those who suffer.
What Does Scripture Say?
"Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church." (James 5:14-15)
From the earliest days of Christianity, the Church has prayed over and anointed the sick in the name of the Lord.
Why Is This Sacrament Important?
Anointing of the Sick unites our suffering with Christ, strengthens us spiritually, and prepares us to face illness with faith and hope. This beautiful Sacrament is open to anyone that is about to undergo surgery, is severely or chronically mentally or physically sick, and the dying. We encourage our parishioners to fully participate in this grace-filled Sacrament.
